5 Tips for those who want to travel the world
Making a world trip requires preparation. Unless you’re a millionaire, you can’t just leave everything and leave today on the trip of a lifetime. Not only does a world tour cost money, there are still things you take better into account. Would you like to travel the world? Read these 5 tipsfirst. They will certainly help you to make your dream come true!
Outside if you are a millionaire, you will (unfortunately) have to work to pay for your world trip. Having an achievable goal in mind is a plus. For example, you can take a temporary job, just after your studies or between two jobs, so you don’t have to take a leave of absence for your trip. After all, most employers do not like to give a few months of leave in a row. And that’s understandable, too. Therefore, do not make it difficult for yourself and your employer and take a break. This way you will probably be able to enjoy yourself on your world tour.
Of course, you could also work at your new destination. You have to prepare well from home so that you don’t stand there empty-handed and have to go home soon. Make correct arrangements with your future employer in advance and make sure you also have proof of an agreement. Also, make sure you have a plan B if this job turns out to be nothing for you.
Once you get a job, you’ll also need to learn to save for your world trip. If this is your big dream, i’m sure you’d like to spend some money on it. A world trip costs not a few hundred euros but rather a few thousand euros. You could already see that when we took stock of our world trip. Keep that in mind in your savings plan. Be realistic and don’t think you’ve saved enough in six months to make the trip of a lifetime (unless you earn extremely well and/or save very well). For example, we saved a year and a half intensively to have a good budget. Setting aside a large amount each month in a separate account is definitely advisable.
From the moment you start saving, you can also start planning. Maybe you have your dream trip all in mind, but maybe not at all. Therefore, start well in advance with plans and routes to map out. Where do you really want to go and where do you want to go? Plot a route and decide how long you want to stay where. Find out which regions are more expensive and which are cheaper. This will help you to estimate your budget better. Also, ask for advice from people with experience with world travel and/or the regions you want to visit.
Planning is definitely a good idea for a world trip, because without a plan your trip will probably cost you more money and valuable time on travel. Think carefully about certain themes such as a daily budget, sights, luggage etc. The time you need to save, you definitely need to plan your trip completely.
Every trip, and certainly a trip around the world, comes with some paperwork. Think of travel documents that are mandatory for certain countries, applying for your passport, getting your insurance in order,… So be sure to keep in mind that you’re spent a while figuring out and getting a lot of documents in order. See that you don’t overlook anything, because arranging certain things from abroad can be difficult.
A not insignificant factor of a world trip is learning to say goodbye. Are you someone who’s homesick a lot? Then opt for a relatively short world trip. Because you will no doubt miss things from home (even if you have never been homesick before). We especially missed our friends when we were traveling. That’s why it’s nice to think about some kind of farewell party before you leave or a nice memento that you can take on a trip. Of course, it’s also easier than ever to stay in touch today through all social media and Whatsapp. And that’s a good thing. So don’t forget to say goodbye to your surroundings before you leave!
