The reason for a trip to Egypt is of course the rich history that this country in Africa carries with it. You can visit some ancient ruins and temples in Egypt, such as in Luxor. But a visit to the pyramids of Giza is of course also possible. In addition, the temperature is often a reason to go to this country. Because in December and January you often have a very pleasant climate here.
OUR TRAVEL EXPERIENCES IN EGYPT
BEST TRAVEL TIME
Egypt is actually perfect to visit all year round. But if you want an optimal holiday with the perfect weather conditions, it is best to travel from mid-March to mid-May or from September to October. This is because you can avoid the hot periods in the summer and the (relatively) colder months. Although this cold period is not too bad in the winter months. The only disadvantage of traveling to Egypt during the winter are the short days. Sun sets around 5 o’clock in the afternoon.
Although most people book an all-inclusive when traveling to Egypt, you can also book your flight tickets yourself. A direct flight from Belgium or the Netherlands can be found from 120 euros per person for a single ticket during high season and 70 euros during low season. You can choose from Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh, Cairo or Marsa Alam as destination. You can book these direct flights via Tui Fly, Brussels Airlines and EasyJet.
The most popular and most chosen accommodation in Egypt is of course a resort. Here you have a nice hotel room with a swimming pool and other entertainment. The prices for these rooms vary from each other and the season also plays a major role. If you search well you can already find a hotel room in a resort from 50 euros per night. For a budget hotel you can already find prices from 10 euros. In our opinion, Airbnb is not yet on point in Egypt. You better avoid it.
FOOD IN EGYPT
The Egyptian kitchen is a combination of different cuisines. You can find Greek, Turkish, French, Persian and English influences in it. This because some nomads have traveled through the country over the years. The main ingredients of most Egyptian dishes are vegetables and rice. In addition, grilled meat or fish from the Red Sea is also very popular. Desserts in Egypt are often very sweet and can be compared to the well-known Moroccan desserts. At a local restaurant, food will cost you between 2 and 6 euros with drinks included. In touristic places this can be doubled.
documents FOR EGYPT
Is your travel time through Egypt less than 30 days? Then you should not make any special requests in advance. You can then just get your visa on arrival, it will cost you $ 25. Are you going to travel to Egypt for more than 30 days and less than 3 months? Then you must apply for your visa online at least 7 days before departure on the official website provided for this. This visa will also cost you $ 25. If you travel with an official travel agency, this visa is often already arranged for you. You also need an international driving license for Egypt. So don’t forget this if you want to rent a car.
VACCINes FOR EGYPT
You do not need mandatory vaccines for Egypt. Unless you have traveled through a country with Yellow Fever in the past 7 days before departure. Then a vaccine against Yellow Fever is obligated. In addition, it is recommended to receive a DTP vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus and polio. As well as a vaccine against Hepatitis A (contagious Yellow Fever). However, the risk of these diseases is very small in tourist zones. There is no Malaria in Egypt.
WHAT TO DO IN EGYPT?
Although several people claim that Egypt has excellent public transport, in reality this is not the case. You should absolutely not count on the train network. And the bus network is very complicated if you cannot read Arabic (except for tourist regions). Most buses are of excellent quality. In our opinion, the best way to get around in Egypt is by taxi. The best way to find a good and cheap taxi is to ask at the counter in your hotel. Or ask the host of your stay. Would you rather drive yourself? Keep in mind that you need an international driving license. This costs you 15 euros and can be requested from ANWB. There are also many checkpoints where you will have to show your documents.
