Portugal 🇵🇹

Portugal has always fascinated us, but it took quite a long time before we started discovering this beautiful country. We have not found a real reason for this. Because this country really has everything. With beautiful cities such as Porto, Lisbon and Sintra. But also an incredibly beautiful nature with the Azores, the Douro Valley and the most beautiful beach in Portugal ‘Praia da Marinha’ in the Algarve. It’s a varied country.

The best travel time for Portugal is generally in the months of May, June and September. This is because you have good weather practically everywhere and you avoid the crowds of the summer holidays. If you are depending on school holidays, summer is of course also suitable! But you will pay a little more for your vacation. Portugal is also extremely suitable for people who want to overwinter in a warmer climate.

A flight ticket to Portugal doesn’t have to be that expensive. During high season you can fly directly to Porto from 80 euros and to Lisbon for 100 euros. These prices can increase in the weekends. In low season you only have to pay half of this. These cheap flights can of course be booked with the low cost airlines Ryanair and AirPortugal. If you want to go to the Azores you have to fly to Ponto Delgada airport. The tickets are not that cheap with a 250 euro for a single ticket in high season. Looking for tips to book a cheap flight ticket to Portugal? Then take a look here.

The train network in Portugal is in good order, especially for long distances. You can book all tickets via the internet on the website of Comboios de Portugal. The disadvantage of the trains is the price. But of course you get some comfort instead. In the big cities such as Porto and Lisbon you can easily use the metro. These will take you almost anywhere in the city. A day ticket is between 5 and 6 euros. For buses and trams you pay about 3.5 euros for 2 trips. These are also in excellent condition. In some cities you can even buy a combination ticket that allows you to use any public transport. The prices for these cards vary widely from each other. Renting a car is also an excellent idea. Also Uber in the big cities.

With a budget between 15 euros and 25 euros per person per day for food and drinks, you should definitely be OK in Portugal. IF you don’t always go to the expensive restaurants in touristic areas. In Portugal, a lot of fish is eaten and the sardines are a specialty. There are even shops where you can only buy this specialty. You should also have tasted the delicious Pastel de nata pastry. You can find this pastry in different bakeries.

Portugal is still in Europe, so you can pay with the euros. You can also pay by credit card practically anywhere. Watch out! Some banks require you to activate the “pay abroad” function. You can often do this yourself in the banking app, but it is best to check this before departure. You will also have to pay extra for collecting money in Portugal, even if this is Europe. This can sometimes go up to 4 euros per lighting. The tips are usually already settled in the restaurants and hotels. If not, 10 to 15 percent is the most accepted tip.
