4 Essential travel tips for all those who want to go on a road trip
This week we launched our win campaign for the book ‘On a Roadtrip’ and as our name suggests, we also like to go on a road trip. We already have some experience with this and that’s why today we would like to give 4 essential travel tips for all those who want to go on a road trip. It’s 4 things you should definitely take into account along the way.
4 Essential travel tips
A first important point to consider for all those who want to go on a road trip is that your comfort will be less. You spend a lot of time in the car, will often spend the night in small spaces and take breaks along the side of the road. Therefore, make sure that you can do all these things in as much comfort as possible. It can help to have certain things with you that will make you more comfortable. Buy a decent travel pillow, install an electric cooler in your car and book a comfortable hotel for the night. After all, your comfort on the road itself will be kept to a minimum. But it’s not because you have to make concessions in comfort that the experience will be less. On the contrary! Stepping out of your comfort zone (do you get it?) can just be very enriching!
Another important point is to map out your route in advance. It will save you a lot of mileage and money if you record your route in advance. For example, you can calculate the fastest or shortest route and also calculate all your refuelling. This gives a better overall picture in advance than impulsive departure without a plan. The latter can also be fun, but it will cost you more money. The good thing about planning your route in advance is also that you know where to stop along the way and possibly record an overnight stay. In many places hotels are already fully booked on the day itself and so you have to look for another place to sleep last minute. And that’s a concern you’d rather save yourself.
On a road trip you spend a lot of time on the road by car. An important part is therefore to take sufficient and timely breaks. It is best to meet up with your travel partner in advance to see how many kilometres you take a break. And try to stick to this too! Often you think, “I’ll drive some more” or “Another 20 kilometers and I’ll rest”, but in most cases you’re already tiredat that moment. And driving when you’re tired is life-threatening. So be careful! And plan your rest breaks every so many miles and stick to it. Also, do not drive more than a few hours a day without sleeping. This too is dangerous and therefore avoidable.
The great thing about a road trip is that you come to many different places. You can stop where you want and you don’t have to take time into account. A final important tip when taking a road trip is to enjoy it very hard. It’s such a fun way of traveling. You feel free as a bird and you just have to take your travel partner into account. So don’t forget to enjoy the time you spend on the road! It’s probably the last time you’ll get to all these places. That’s what makes a road trip so nice and unique!
