7 Hotspots in South Africa
South Africa is one of the most beautiful countries we have visited in recent years. Of course, there is a lot to do in this country and maybe it is difficult to make the right choice to where you want to go. That’s why we list the hotspots of South Africa here for you. So we can help you a little bit in that search. This list is mainly based on your own experiences and preferences.
Hotspots in South Africa
When visiting South Africa, a city trip in Cape Town should not be missed! This city has a lot to offer. For example, you can eat here in one of the numerous excellent restaurants or go shopping on Waterfront. Here you will find both large chains and local shops where you can support the townships. In addition, a visit to one of the 7 natural wonders, Table Mountain, is well worth it! Or how about a helicopter ride over Cape Town? One of the best trips we have done in South Africa. For those who want to eat more about the history of the country, a visit to Robben Island is worth while. Here Nelson Mandela was imprisoned during Apartheid. Although the real hotspot of Cape Town in South Africa is undoubtedly Cape of Good Hope and its National Park. Here you can take beautiful walks along the water with breathtaking views.
The Kruger Park is perhaps the most famous safari park in all of Africa. And that’s not surprising because in this National Park in South Africa you can find 148 registered species of mammals, making this the most varied safari park in Africa. Very impressive so and something you should definitely have visited in South Africa. Although a self-drive is perfectly possible here, we still recommend a guide or an organized tour. This park is 352 kilometers long and about 60 kilometers wide. Finding your way here is easier with an experienced person.
Are you looking for the hiking paradise? Then you must have to go to Drakensberg. This mountainous landscape that just seems to come out of a movie is just breathtaking. Although the absolute highlight of a trip to this region is literally and figuratively the Sentinel Mountain Drive. What a path that takes you to the top of the mountain of the same name. To reach the top of this mountain, in the form of amphitheater, you have to climb a chain ladder at the end. For this adventurous trip you will get one of the most beautiful views you will find in South Africa or even the world! Drakensberg with the Sentinel Mountain is undoubtedly a Hotspot in South Africa!
Garden Route and The Whale Coast Route
The Garden Route that starts in Ado is a brilliant route along the coast and takes you to some National Parks and beautiful beaches and ends in Cape Town. Stops you should definitely make on this route are Hermanus, Addo Elephant Park, Tsitsikamma National Park, Alexandria Sand Dunes and of course Plettenberg Bay where you can swim with seals. Of course, this route has much more to offer than these stops alone. And we advise you to inform you enough about this. The Garden Route, or the garden route in Dutch, crosses into the De Whale Coast Route at the end. And on this road there are several places where you have a chance to spot whales, which makes this road even more spectacular. A hotspot in South Africa to write down so!
This region in the middle of South Africa is mountainous half desert landscape where you won’t find so many human civilizations. Which, of course, makes this place wonderful. Places you should definitely have seen in this region are the Swartberg Pass (one of the most beautiful stone stroke passes in South Africa) and the city of Bloemenfontein (the largest city in the country). In addition, a visit to Suterland and SALT Observatory is also a nice trip. You can spot a lot of stars here because there is hardly any light pollution here.
Johannesburg is sometimes called the beating hard of Africa. And that is mainly because the economy is controlled from here. The gold industry is particularly important here. If you travel to this city this is less for nature and more for the history of the country. For example, Freedom Square, where the Right of Freedom was adopted, and only houses where Nelson Mandela lived have real attractions. The apartheid museum, the new popular district of Maboneng and Soweto where you can cycle are also highly recommended.
Stellenbosch is the beautiful wine region of South Africa where you can taste the best wines in one of the numerous wineries. A trip to this region is perfect to do from Cape Town. One activity you should definitely do here is take the wine tram. This tram takes you past various tastings and drives past the beautiful but also impressively large vineyards. Besides tasting wine and good food you can also take some nice walks here or enjoy a delicious wellness. Is this region (what should!) on your schedule? Then you should definitely visit Franschhoek. What is called the culinary capital of South Africa. A real hotspot in South Africa!
