Mexico Week 4: Puerto Vallarta cools
Currently we are in Puerto Vallarta, a beautiful city on the coast. This seaside resort cools down after the beautiful but warm Guanajuato. Curious what we experienced this week? Find out here!
Last days Guanajuato
After a few days of futility and illness, we already feel a lot better. Our last days in Guanajuato we really try to enjoy. We visit the local market where we buy all kinds of nice souvenirs for home. It stands out how cheap these souvenirs are compared to other cities. We will only suddenly benefit from it! We also went in the evening to enjoy a performance by the local sorority. Student associations are very different here than we are. Here most of them unite in a band and they bring typical music from Mexico. Something you won’t immediately encounter in Belgium.
Flight to Puerto Vallarta
An hour from Guanajuato
is leon airport where we have to take our flight to Puerto Vallarta.
It is a small airport where mainly domestic flights and flights to and from the
take place. The plane was as expected also very small, but luxurious. There was clearly more (leg) space than on our previous flights. Striking for a short flight of barely one hour. Drinks and refreshments were also included. Fine, fly like that!
A little annoyed
Arriving in Puerto Vallarta overtook us the hustle and bustle of this city. Many tourists and even more taxi drivers flattened the entrance hall of the airport. We didn’t expect this. We thought this seaside resort was going to be less popular than cancun
We took a taxi up to our stay. Again we had to enter and follow the route with our own GPS so that the taxi driver would not drive the wrong way. Many taxi drivers know the hotel zoneperfectly, but from you ask a destination outside this zone it becomes search. Near our destination the taxi driver dropped us. We thought we’d find it. After a quarter of an hour of dragging our heavy suitcases, we didn’t immediately find our rented apartment. A little irritated by the heat, dragging the suitcases and searching our apartment, we decided to give up the search.
Just at that moment Javier, the landlord of the apartment, cheerfully joined us. Hurray! He must have thought we might not find it. He rated us well. Together we walked to the apartment, tucked behind the corner of the street where we were looking. The apartment looked spacious, with two bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom, living room and a laundry room. A little breathing space was welcome. We saw it here completely!
Beach and food
The first days we chose to cool the sea. Lying on the vast beach and swimming in the sea was what we had been looking forward to. The cooling water did good at temperatures of over 30 degrees.
In the evening it is mainly the boulevard in the center of Puerto Vallarta that knows how to delight us. There are endless stalls of local food and it’s hard to make choices. Bryan already opted for a local burger and roasted scampi on a stick and Sigrid already opted for traditional churros. Everything here is just as good! And if this isn’t cozy enough, you can also enjoy some great dancers who give a colourful performance. Finally, a short but powerful firework can be seen. All this in the sign of Holy Week, the week before Easter where all Mexicans celebrate from morning to evening. Up and down Mexico! This is exactly what we loved coming to Mexico for. Viva Mexico!
The next few days are going to be very special for us. We’ll soon be meeting with Mexican friends from Sigrid and spend the weekend together. We haven’t seen each other in 10 years, but the contact has always stayed. This is a moment that Sigrid has been looking forward to for years and it promises to be a happy weekend. This will be a weekend for us where we will probably get to know the real Mexican customs and a weekend of fun, that’s for sure. Next Friday you can read here how that went.
A month in Mexico has now passed. As sorry as this is to us, we are secretly looking forward to our next destination. If you want to stay informed about this destination, you can always follow us on Facebook
