Saving money is always fun when traveling. Only this should not harm your health or the experience of the trip. That’s why we’ve made a list of 5 things you shouldn’t save on when you go on holiday. Because of course, travelling should be fun at first!
What shouldn’t you save on during your holiday?
Although you may not always need sunscreen in Belgium or the Netherlands, you will definitely need it abroad! Because often the UV radiation is much higher. Without sunscreen, you not only run the risk of burning, but also the risk of skin cancer increases. Going for the cheapest and most unknown product is usually not a good idea. For example, we once bought sunscreen for 4 euros and we have never been as burnt as then. Also house brands, the so-called “white products” we do not recommend with sunscreen. Choose a well-known brand and preferably with factor 50. Slightly more expensive, but definitely worth the investment for your skin. On sunscreen you should definitely not save on holiday.
Another mistake we made in the past is spending little money on a good suitcase. For example, we bought a very cheap suitcase to travel through Mexico, with the result that this suitcase was completely broken after two flights and we still had to buy a new one. Investing in a good suitcase before you leave on holiday is therefore very important! Want to know how to find a good suitcase? Then you can see what to look out for here.
3 Get off
Many people we know save on holidays sometimes on the trips they do. And that’s a shame. Especially if you’re making a long trip to countries like South Africa or America. Because the chances of you coming here only once in your life are very high. We too saved in the past on a few trips, and we sometimes regret that now. We save more on the accommodation and food than on experiences. An experience or trip colours your holiday, so why would you want to save on that? Search for the cheapest solution, of course we do!
4 Vaccinations and medication
We can’t repeat it enough and say it but you can’t save on your vaccinations and other medications like pills against malaria! Jeopardizing your own health to save a few euros is just not worth it. Therefore, always visit your family doctor or the Tropical Institute. All other providers of this medication who claim to be cheaper, you should not use. After all, you want to make sure that the medication works when you need it.
5 The right equipment
Another thing you absolutely can’t save on before you go on holiday is the right equipment. For example, buy a good pair of sunglasses that protect your eyes enough and fit your face perfectly. Or the right walking shoes that aren’t broken after 200 km. And so there are still a lot of things. Investing in good quality paid its own over the years back. We didn’t always do this and the things we saved on ended up costing us a lot more!
