5 tips to protect your photos while traveling

Most people nowadays take a lot of photos when travelling. Getting rid of these holiday photos would be a disaster! Especially if you’re shooting for a professional purpose. That’s why we’ll give you some tips to protect your material and photos while traveling.

5 tips to protect your photos while traveling

1 Put everything online right away

If you have your laptop on a trip, it’s best that you put your pictures on it every day. Of course, anything can happen with it here, so it’s best that you upload it online too (if there is wifi of course). So we always put our photos on Google Photos which works very quickly and easily. And especially since it also automatically syncs with our smartphone. Of course, there are other possibilities such as Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive.

    2 External hard drive

Don’t you have a laptop? No problem, you can also buy an external hard drive so you can put your photos on it. These external hard drives should not be large and can therefore always be kept close to you. A hard drive is normally found in any electrical store. We do advise you not to take the cheapest one right away, because quality is important! You don’t want these to turn out at the end of the holiday.

    3 Divide your storage material

As you travel, divide all your material where your photos are stored. Because it would be incredibly annoying to put your camera and your hard drive together in hand luggage. If it is lost then you will also lose both things and therefore all your pictures. So divide all your storage equipment among all your luggage. But keep the most precious one close to you anyway. This is perhaps the most important tip to protect your photos while traveling.

    4 Not too conspicuous

Of course, your camera can also be stolen. And if this is after a very nice day where you have taken beautiful pictures, then that is very unfortunate. So don’t carry your camera too prominently, and certainly not in the poor countries. Avoid an overpriced bag that stands out and take your camera with you in a regular backpack. When you bring out your camera, always hang it around your neck and not around your arm, because this is very easy to take away by thieves on mopeds or bicycles.

    5 Store it when sleeping

Store your belongings while sleeping, preferably in a safe. And again, it’s best not to put everything together and put your hard drive and your camera in a different place if possible. Are you going on a night train, boat or bus? Then at best you use your pocket with camera as a pillow. Or under your coat or blanket. This not only deters thieves, but the chances of catching them being stolen are so much greater.
