5 tips to save on food on your trip
We like to eat very much and certainly on holiday we like to eat out. That usually has an impact on our budget while traveling. That’s why we’ve prepared some tips and tricks for ourselves that we’re about to share with you. So you too can save on food during your trip.
1 Eat with the locals
Eat on holiday with the locals. It will save you a lot of money and it is often much better than at the tourist restaurants. In Mexico we ate delicious tacos and we were already full for 3 euros. While for the same price in the tourist zone you only have your drink. Often you really get to know a country with its traditional cuisine. So choose to eat outside the tourist centre, preferably with residents of the country itself.
2 Take a room with kitchen
Saving on your food starts with booking your room. It is better to book a room with a kitchen than without a kitchen, so that you can (occasionally) cook yourself. This will save you a lot! By going to the store and buying your breakfast, for example, you are already saving a lot of money. The more you cook yourself, the cheaper your holiday. Of course, not everyone wants to cook on a trip and we understand that. But usually it is a good idea to book a room with refrigerator so that you can possibly buy liquor and keep cool. This also saves a lot of money!
3 Question addresses
Ask the reception or host of your holiday home where you need to be to eat (cheaply). And also ask where there are special day offers. Because there are many things that have a special offer on certain days. For example, there are cases that serve a dish once a week for little money. Or maybe your host knows a case where they have a happy hour. This also allows you to save on drinking. Ask these people and they will give you the best and cheapest places with pleasure.
4 Plan a budget in
Our mistake is often that we don’t keep track of what we spend in a day, and then the costs sometimes run high. A good idea to solve this problem is to set a daily budget for food and not deviate from it. It makes you think a lot more about your spending. Please note that you do not make the daily budget too small because starving or shorting your own is of course not the intention.
5 Eat according to the region
What also makes you save on food is the choice for the restaurant where you will eat. For example, on the coast you will be able to eat fish much cheaper than, for example, a good steak. Now that we are in Mexico, it is the cheapest for us to eat Mexican food such as tacos. Other dishes such as pasta, are more expensivehere. If you want to save on food, you can eat better according to the region where you are staying.
