In this post we let you enjoy with a typical speciality of Spain:tapas. These tasty snacks are truly irresistible! We will introduce you to this specialty from Spain. You will find countless restaurants in Spain where you can enjoy this delicacy. Bet you want to go to Spain later?
What are tapas?
Tapas can be compared to appetizers. They are small snacks, both hot and cold, that you usually eat with an aperitif drink before you eat a main course. In Spain they often choose to eat this as a main course. Spaniards then opt for many different snacks, and usually with a good glass of wine. Tapas are often very simple snacks, but fresh and made themselves.
We were already allowed to taste many different types of tapas in Spain. But our absolute favourite is patatas bravas and especially the spicy sauce that is served with it. This is actually a very simple dish but so tasty! You’ll find patatas bravas in every restaurant. However, this will differ in every restaurant. There are several ways to prepare and serve this. This is one of the best known tapas.
Another tapa we met in Barcelona is pimientos de padrón. This is a small green pepper that is usually grilled and then sprinkled with sea salt. A total surprise! You should definitely try this if you don’t know it yet!
Another one of our favorite tapas is calamari. These are fried rings of squid. In Spain they really taste better than in Belgium. They are fresh in contrast to Belgium where they usually come from the freezer. We choose calamari as good as ever when we eat tapas.
Last but not least,we find albondigas worth ordering in a restaurant. These are meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce. Most of the sauces you get with tapas will be spicy. However, the dish is always in balance and does not dominate the spicy taste of the sauce. That’s why we love tapas. It’s a simple, tasty and high-quality snack!
